Josey J. Jimenez

Josey J. Jimenez is in her ninth year as the Director of Bands at Duluth Middle School in Duluth, Georgia, where she leads a thriving band program with multiple ensembles, including the DMS Symphonic Band, Beginning Band, and Wildcat Winds. In addition to her work at Duluth Middle, Ms. Jimenez serves as one of the Lead Teachers for Middle School Band in Gwinnett County Public Schools. A native of California and a product of Georgia’s music education programs, Ms. Jimenez developed a love for music at an early age, inspired by her mother, who encouraged her to play the saxophone and ultimately pursue a career as a band director. She is a graduate of South Effingham High School and earned her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Georgia and a Master of Music Education from Georgia College and State University. She is currently pursuing an Education Specialist degree in Music Education at Piedmont University. While at UGA, she studied saxophone under Dr. Connie Frigo and conducting under Dr. Jaclyn Hartenberger and was a proud member of the Redcoat Band. Since joining Duluth Middle School, Ms. Jimenez has overseen tremendous growth in the band program, more than doubling enrollment from 135 students to over 300. She is incredibly proud to teach in Duluth, a diverse community with a deep passion for music education, where she works to inspire and support students from all backgrounds. Beyond the classroom, she was a member of Tara Winds for two years and currently subs with the Atlanta Wind Symphony when available. She is also a sought-after clinician and adjudicator throughout Georgia, and her ensembles consistently earn superior ratings at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation. Her students regularly participate in District Honor Band, All-State Band, UGA Midfest, and Solo & Ensemble Festival. She holds memberships in several professional organizations, including Sigma Alpha Iota, Women Band Directors International, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Minority Band Directors National Association, and the National Band Association.

Kevin Schoeller

Dr. Kevin Schoeller currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Duluth Middle School in Duluth, Georgia. Dr. Schoeller is an active free-lance trombonist throughout the Southeast and holds current positions with the Georgia Philharmonic and the Georgia Brass Band. In addition to performing, Dr. Schoeller is also a sought-after low brass clinician and maintains a thriving private studio of middle and high school low brass students. Dr. Kevin Schoeller earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Georgia, where he studied trombone pedagogy and performance with Dr. Josh Bynum and instrumental conducting with Dr. Jaclyn Hartenberger. As a graduate teaching assistant, he worked extensively throughout the University of Georgia’s band program and served as a teaching assistant for the Redcoat Marching Band. While at the University of Georgia, Dr. Schoeller had the privilege of conducting the University of Georgia Trombone Choir at various concerts, with notable performances at the International Trombone Festival in Columbus, GA and at the American Trombone Workshop presented by the United States Army Band in Washington D.C. Before joining Duluth Middle School, Dr. Schoeller served as the assistant band director at Mabry Middle School in Marietta, Georgia and helped lead students in a performance at the Music For All Southeast Regional Concert Festival. He also served as the head band director of Lakeside Middle School in Cumming, Georgia prior to pursuing his doctoral degree. Dr. Schoeller also holds a Master of Music degree in Low Brass Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he served  as an inaugural teaching assistant with the Badger Marching Band and served as a conductor for a wide variety of university athletic events. He also earned undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Trombone Performance from the University of Georgia. He is a member of a wide variety of professional organizations, including Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the National Band Association, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the International Trombone Association, and the International Tuba-Euphonium Association.

Duluth Middle School is a Title I school located within the Gwinnett County Public School district in Duluth, Georgia. Duluth Middle School is part of the Duluth cluster, which includes Chesney ES, Berkeley Lake ES, B.B. Harris ES, Chattahoochee ES, Coleman MS, and Duluth HS. With almost 1500 students enrolled from grades 6-8, we are proud to be an incredibly diverse school and community that strives to give all students the opportunity for excellence. 

Fine Arts @ Gwinnett County Public Schools

Students enrolled in Fine Arts programs of Gwinnett County Public Schools receive quality instruction in dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts. The Fine Arts will be an essential and integral part of the instructional program and will be accessible to all students. All students will be expected to demonstrate competence in the production, analysis, and evaluation of at least one art form and have an understanding of the contribution of all art forms to world cultures. Superior fine arts instruction will be delivered by certified arts teachers in each curriculum area based on a sequential, comprehensive, quality Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum which incorporates current technology. The AKS represent GCPS standards of excellence for all fine arts students and scaffold from grade to grade, ensuring that students are immersed in arts experiences.


Teachers will engage in continuous improvement of their content knowledge and will utilize quality plus instructional strategies in conjunction with creative and innovative instructional practices in the delivery of instruction. Gwinnett County Public Schools' Fine Arts students participate in numerous local, statewide, regional, national, and international festivals and competitions, and are known for their excellent performance standards. The continued enthusiasm and support of administrators at all levels, community members, parents, and students enable the Gwinnett County Public Schools Fine Arts programs to achieve world-class standards and to remain an essential element in a complete educational program. It is the desire that each Gwinnett County Public Schools student develops his/her artistic and creative potential to the fullest.
