Ensembles

Beginning Band

The DMS Beginning Band includes all 6th grade band students in the entire program. Students in Beginning Band participate in two concerts during the school year; the Demonstration Concert in December and the Spring Concert in May. Beginning Band students are also eligible to be nominated for the Georgia Music Educators Association District 13 First Year Honor Band.

Symphonic Band

The DMS Symphonic Band is made up of 7th and 8th grade intermediate band students who are continuing to build their musicianship and ensemble skills. Students in this group focus on improving their technique, tone quality, and overall musicality while performing a variety of repertoire. The Symphonic Band regularly performs at concerts and assessments throughout the year. Most recently, they earned straight superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE), demonstrating their hard work and dedication. This ensemble serves as a stepping stone for students looking to take on more advanced musical challenges.

Wildcat Winds

The Wildcat Winds is Duluth Middle School’s premier auditioned ensemble, composed of the top 7th and 8th grade musicians in the band program. Founded in 2016 as a small pep band of fewer than 40 members, the ensemble has since grown into a highly respected performance group that represents DMS at school, community, regional, and national events. Students in this ensemble are also regularly selected for prestigious honors, including the University of Georgia’s Midfest, GMEA District 13 Honor Band, and the Georgia All-State Band. Most recently, the Wildcat Winds had the honor of performing at the Minority Band Directors National Association National Concert Band Invitational. Through advanced repertoire, high-level musicianship, and frequent performance opportunities, the Wildcat Winds provide dedicated students with an enriching and challenging musical experience.
